Jan’s Loony Love Life: Crepes and Crazies, by Lindsay Hall, is the third book in the Jan Duffy series. The first book is Jan’s Excellent Romance: Applesauce and Andy and the second is Jan’s Romantic Dilemma: Broccoli and Brad. While Jan’s Loony Love Life stands on its own, I recommend reading the first two books as they are well written and make for enjoyable reading.
Jan has come a long way. She married her first love and he ran off with another woman. To rub more salt in Jan’s wound he left her with $6000 in car payments. Jan survives, thanks in part to her inner strength, her family and a marvelous group of friends. Her cafe is successful. She is in a “sleep only with me relationship” with Andy, who is an attorney. To add a little conflict there is her attraction to Brad, the town hunk. Things get really interesting when her ex-husband, Jeffrey, comes back to town “because it’s hard to unlove someone you once loved.” Jan eventually does get to ask Jeffrey the question that begs to be answered: “Why did you leave?” His answer is important-as is Jan’s reaction.
It was wonderful to be reunited with the charismatic characters of Jan’s world. For the reader who has not read the first two books in the series, the author includes a preface as well a prequel of Jan and Jeffrey back story. In addition, the author skillfully introduces the characters. Using a conversational tone she describes their relationship to Jan and to each other. The story is filled with matchmaking attempts, food, relationship issues, friendships and love. The strength of the book is how beautifully all of these come together. I recommend reading this delightful book and I look forward to the fourth book.
I received this book for free and I give this review of my own free will.
