When we are introduced to Chirp (Naomi) Orenstein in the novel Nest, by Esther Ehrlich, she is a happy adolescent. She has a deep love of birds and a strong connection to nature. She loves her parents and sister deeply, but it is her bond with her mother that is prevalent throughout this touching story. Tragedy and heartache strikes the family and Chirp struggles to cope. This gripping novel chronicles Chirp’s efforts to deal with her unexpected new world
The author is a gifted writer. She writes with insightfulness, sensitivity and honesty and the result is a memorable story.
