After a Fashion by Jen Turano; Bethany House ISBN 978-0-7642-1275-8

After a Fashion, by Jen Turano, opens in New York City in 1882. Harriet Peabody’s employer sends her to make a delivery to the home of Oliver Addleshaw who is a member of high society. The delivery turns into a disaster which results in Harriet losing her job. However, not all is lost as Oliver offers her a job-of sorts. He needs a female at his side while he tries to close a business deal. She initially and repeatedly declines his offer of employment, but finally accepts when he offers her a large cash amount. Even though she immediately regrets her decision, she tries to keep her end of the agreement and that is when chaos ensues.

Under normal circumstances, Harriet and Oliver would never have met, but meet they did. Their worlds come together with unexpected results. Humorous, witty and filled with surprises, the story moves quickly. There is a diverse cast of characters who bring much to the story line and their conversations and antics are vividly brought to life.

The author has written a charming novel. I loved everything about it and I recommend reading it.

I received this book free of charge from Bethany House and I give this review of my own free will.
